UK Response was contracted to carry out extensive renovation to Hall Liddy Chartered Accountants Georgian mansion property in the financial district of Manchester, where severe damage was caused by a fire started by a pedestrian intent on causing damage. This incident set fire to office waste, which in turn set fire to the basement of the property and spread to the ground floor offices.

As the property is a listed building built around 1800, UK Response was required to work closely with the council’s Heritage and Conservation Department, along with Hall Liddy to ensure that the reinstatement of the building was in keeping with the original fabric.

Requirements

The key requirements were:

• To minimise disruption and enable the office to remain open for business
• To reinstate the property to its former glory, using all the original materials
• To carry out works in the city centre, with limited access.

Solution

UK Response worked closely on the project with the Hall Liddy management team ensuring clear communication, which in turn led good working relations and no adverse conditions for the office staff by minimising disruption.

The full reinstatement took place over a 12-week period, and drew upon UK Response’s expertise in the use of original materials such as horse hair and lime plaster, and the utilisation of traditional methods of manufacture to supply new floorboards, bespoke manufactured skirting, architraves, box sash windows and doors etc.
